300 km pour la VIE - Bike Challenge
The 15th edition of the 300 km for LIFE Bike Challenge, an activity organized by the Cité de la Santé Foundation, presented by GUIMOND Construction and Desjardins, in collaboration with Subaru de Laval, was a record success: the net sum of $400,000 was raised for the Laval Cancer Program.
The 160 cyclists rode 325 km round trip between Laval and Trois-Rivières on September 10 and 11. Our 2022 ambassador, Olympic champion Charles Hamelin, was present in Laval for the departure of the cyclists, where the excitement was palpable. When they arrived at the Centre intégré de cancérologie de Laval on Sunday, the emotion was great, as many participants were close to people with cancer or had gone through this ordeal themselves.
"We are really happy with the exceptional results of this 15th edition! We would like to thank all the participants, partners, donors and volunteers who made this success possible. The mobilization of the population to offer better care and services to cancer patients warms our hearts and reminds us that in Laval, we take care of our world!" - André Malacket, Executive Director of the Cité de la Santé Foundation.
The funds raised will be used to finance the acquisition of state-of-the-art medical equipment, to offer increasingly innovative services to patients treated at the Centre intégré de cancérologie de Laval and to contribute to clinical research projects conducted at the CISSS de Laval that literally save lives every year.

A Little Story about a Huge Challenge
The 300 km for LIFE Bike Challenge was launched in 2008 by Lynda Bouchard, Coordinator at the Fondation du Collège Beaubois and a former executive assistant at the Council of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists (CMDP) of the Laval Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS). Mrs. Bouchard, who is a breast-cancer survivor, wanted to find a way to give back for the care and services she’d received, as well as to contribute to supporting other victims of this terrible disease.
As a Mauricie native and cycling enthusiast, a route from Laval to Trois-Rivières seemed like a natural choice. With support from many other individuals, including surgeon Dr. Patrice Lamoureux, she inaugurated this cycling challenge, which then included roughly 50 cyclists and raised a few hundred dollars for the cause.
In 2018, on the 11th anniversary of the first edition of the event, 300 km for LIFE shattered records: 130 participants and $237,000 raised for the Regional Cancer Program. Over those 11 years, more than $1.7 million have been raised. These results have been celebrated by a commemorative painting hanging in the Centre Intégré de Cancérologie de Laval: 300 km dans les rayons de la VIE, a piece by artist Mika.
