What is a traumatic brain injury?

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs when a blow or jolt to the head causes the brain to move within the skull, or when an injury damages brain cells, leading to impaired brain function.

Depending on where the brain is affected, the aftereffects can vary widely—from mood swings to paralysis. In fact, no two cases are the same—there are as many outcomes as there are brains! That’s what makes TBIs so complex to manage on a daily basis.

The Foundation is incredibly proud of all it has achieved since its creation in 2007.
