At the Mira Foundation, we are committed to protecting the confidentiality of the personal information of our employees, beneficiaries, members and donors. We value the trust of the general public and the people with whom we do business. We know that, to maintain this trust, we must be transparent and accountable for the proper management of the information contained in our files.
Personal information
In the course of our various activities, we frequently collect and use personal information. Anyone who provides us with such information expects it to be properly protected. Our confidentiality measures are designed to meet these expectations. We do not rent, sell or trade our mailing lists. Personal information is any information that can be used to recognize, identify or contact a specific individual.
We also retain information on previous years' donations and official donation receipt numbers, as required by the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency for audit purposes.
Confidentiality measures
Personal information collected by our organization is confidential. Our staff is authorized to consult it only for the purposes for which it was obtained. Safeguards have been put in place to ensure that this information is not disclosed or shared for other purposes. We have also implemented measures to ensure that the integrity of the information is maintained and that it is not lost or destroyed.
We collect, use and disclose personal information only for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.
Policy regarding the confidentiality of beneficiary files
The Mira Foundation makes every effort to preserve the confidentiality of the information it holds on the people who benefit from its various programs. Beneficiaries know that the Mira Foundation holds only the personal information it needs about them and that it has obtained with their consent. In addition, we only disclose this information after having notified them and obtained their authorization. For example, beneficiaries who participate in public awareness activities, such as the production of a video or publication, do so only with their prior consent.
Website and e-commerce
The Mira Foundation collects personal information on its website for very specific reasons, and always indicates the purpose. If you make a donation, for example, we ask for your name and address so that we can send you a receipt for tax purposes. Rest assured that the Mira Foundation collects and uses your personal information, including your e-mail address, only for the purpose of responding to your request.
We use password protocols and cryptographic software to protect information, personal or otherwise, sent to us when requesting payment over the Internet. Our software is systematically updated to maximize the protection of such information.
