Food insecurity: why are initiatives like SKNG important?

2025-03-14

  • In Canada, there are an average of 2 million visitors per month to food banks, an increase of 90% in 5 years!
  • In Quebec, a total of 2.9 million requests for assistance were answered in March 2024, that's almost 1.5 times more than in March 2021!
    • 20% of households benefiting from food assistance have a job as their main source of income
    • 35% of beneficiaries are children
  • 72% of Quebec organizations reported having run out of food in the past year.

As the above figures show, the number of food-insecure people is constantly on the rise. This situation affects a wide range of people.

To meet this ever-increasing demand and offset the weaknesses in our social safety net, food security organizations have had to redouble their efforts and mobilization!

By cooking dishes, the people who take part in the Solidarity Kitchens - Next Generation program provide significant support for organizations and individuals in food insecurity situations.

Their mobilization and support will once again bring much-needed comfort to this community!
